WP-1: Project management and organization

This work-package includes the organization and management of the project, whose responsibility is undertaken by the Coordinator with the assistance of the leaders of all four research teams. The coordinator overviews the work progress, in order any declination from the work plan to be avoided. At the same time, he will overview and organize the project’s deliverables, exploitation and diffusion of the results, and also the sustainability of the project.

This WP consists of the following three (3) tasks.

Task 1.1. Organization of actions – Financial management

Description / Methodology: The main targets of this task are: (i) technical and economical coordination of the project, (ii) overviewing of the program’s tasks, (iii) synergy of the participating groups, (iv) determination of the hierarchy of tasks, (v) ensuring of the prompt and qualitative preparation of the deliverables. The coordinator undertakes the organization and management of the project, so that all actions start in time, progress being in schedule, all participated research teams being collaborative. His efforts are assisted by the Steering Committee (SC) that will be formed in the beginning of the project, including apart from the Coordinator  the leaders of the four Research Teams (RT) and the External Invited Scientist (Prof. M. Collins). The overall financial management of the project will be carried out by the coordinator, in cooperation with the Special Account for Research Grants (SARG) of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens (NKUA).

Deliverables: D1: Annual progress Report, including the proceedings of the kick-off meeting (month 12); D2: 2nd year progress report (month 24); D3: 3rd year progress report (month 36); D4: Project final report (month 42).

 Task 1.2. Training issues

Description / Methodology: Apart from the research dimension, the project has an educational character that is based on the cooperation between two Greek Universities, the Institute of Oceanography, which is part of the HCMR (Hellenic Center of Marine Research), two Universities from the abroad (Scholl of Ocean & Earth Science – University of Southampton, Department of Geology in the University of South Carolina) and a technical Institute from abroad (AZTI-Spain). The educational dimension refers to pre- and post- graduate students, PhD candidates and post-doctorate scientists, who will gain further scientific knowledge through project’s implementation. More specifically, the educational aspect is served by: (i) the support of doctorates in a post-graduate level, (MSc) and the support of PhD Thesis, (ii) the ability of participations in international conferences and in research teams activating in proportional matters, (iii) through the participation, mainly of the new scientists, in scientific cruises and their training in state-of-the-art techniques of data acquisition and analyses, (iv) the possibility of supporting exchanging visits between the participated laboratories and small scale visits in other European research/educational foundations.

Deliverables: D5- Report on the project’s educational dimension.

 Task 1.3. Project’s internal evaluation

Description / Methodology: In the frame of the successful implementation and successful finalization of the project, there has been designed an internal evaluation of the project, in which the coherence of the results/deliverables will be evaluated in accordance with the targets of each WP. Thus, the Principal Investigators of each WP will submit progress reports, in which it will be clear if the initial targets have been partially or fully achieved, by evaluating at the same time the content of the deliverables. The reports will be gathered from the Coordinator, who will place them in consultation between the members of the Steering Committee. The results of the internal evaluation will be taken into consideration during the formation of the annual and final reports of the project, in order to any important declinations from the original targets to be fully justified.

Deliverable: D6- Internal Evaluation Report
